今日は授業のない火曜日。とはいえ朝から忙しい1日でした。

・RefWorksという素晴らしいツールの使い方ワークショップ＠図書館
・寮に戻ってランチ＋メール整理＋少し宿題for金曜日
・iLab (Harvard Innovation Lab) での2時間ワークショップ
・Law Schoolのラウンジでゆったりと課題読み込み
RefWorksというツールの便利さに圧倒されたのも印象的だったのだけれども（論文を書く時の参考文献の引用や巻末文献リスト作成が一瞬で出来るというすごいツール。これを当たり前のように使って大人になる今の子ども達はより重要なことにもっと頭や時間を使えるのだろうな、と改めて感じたり）
昨年からハーバードで始まった新しい取り組みというものにも興味があったし、至るところで耳にする「Entrepreneurship」（起業家精神）というものがなぜそんなに注目されているのか、と気になっていたというのも参加理由の一つ。
ワークショップはハーバード大学の学生限定でおそらく100人弱が参加していたのではないかと思う。学部生が25％くらい参加。他大部分はビジネススクール／ケネディスクール／教育学部／メディカル／ロースクール・・とほぼ全ての学校から大学院生が集まっていました。（教育学部仲間も10人発見。こういうところで集まっても教育学部同士はとても仲良し、帰りのバスでも初対面メンバーを含めワイワイと情報交換）

ハーバードのilab（Harvard Innovation Lab）とは？
今日ブログに書きたいのはiLabでのワークショップの内容。ハーバードの学長から学生向けに送られて来たレターには以下のように記載されているiLab。簡単にまとめると社会に広めたいアイディアがある人、起業したい人向けの作業場、それを支援する研究所＆コワーキングスペースのようなもの。「Last fall (Fall 2011) marked the arrival of the Harvard Innovation Lab,launched on the premise that learning involves not just thinking but doing.（中略）
Hundreds of students, faculty, and practitioners engaged withthe i-lab in its inaugural year— from brainstorming meetings about start-ups, to workshops on intellectual property and web design, to mentoring sessionswith experts-in-residence, to panels on diverse topics like artists asentrepreneurs and the delivery of services to the poor.
A “president’s challenge” invited students to envision ventures of high social impact in five categories—clean water, personal health, education, global health, and clean air. The challenge induced a cascade of inventive thinking, attracting proposals from some 170 teams inspired by a will to do good in the world. I look forward to initiating a new challenge in the year ahead.」自分は特に起業家になって事業を興すとかに興味があったわけではないけれども、人とちょっと違うことをやったり、自分のワクワクすることを人に紹介してワクワクをより多くの人と共有することは好きなので同iLabが主催していた「Entrepreneurship101」というワークショップに参加してみました。
昨年からハーバードで始まった新しい取り組みというものにも興味があったし、至るところで耳にする「Entrepreneurship」（起業家精神）というものがなぜそんなに注目されているのか、と気になっていたというのも参加理由の一つ。

Entrepreneurship101の要点
主なメッセージはE&Yの2011年のレポートを参考にしたそうです。① Entrepreneural leader is made not born
（起業家精神を持ったリーダーは育成されて出来てくるもの、大企業での就労経験は役立つ、ただし長過ぎると機会コスト増になる、有名な一部の起業家は例外、30歳以上での起業が半分以上）
2：It is all about the people. Good people can fix bad ideas but other way do not work
4：Focus, Keep it simple
5：Dont reinvent the wheel. Do it better, cheaper. Easier to start at the low end and move up
6：Dont be afraid of competition. Be concerned if there are no competitions. Competition validates your industry. Just make sure you do it better than they do
7 ：Dont sweat the equity. So many companies fail because entrepreneurs are unwilling to part with equity. Trade stocks for something that improves your success

別に起業するしないに関わらず、社会という広い世界の中で自分の人生の歩み方を定める上で考慮すべき視点が多くあると思ったのでこれらもメモ。1：It is not just about the idea. Just do it better than it is being done now

9： Be confident but not arrogant, get used to rejection, EGO destroys so many startups, be open to other opinions
（自信を持ちつつ謙虚な心も忘れずに、否定されることにも慣れるべき、起業家のプライドで多くのスタートアップは滅んでいく、他者の意見にオープンでいるべき）

iLabで多いのはソーシャル（社会貢献）分野での起業、医療＋科学分野での起業、IT+教育分野での起業だそうです。（もちろんこれらの分野は絡み合っていることも多いとのこと）
iLabは冬休み期間の1月に1週間シリコンバレーまたはニューヨークに行くImmersive Programを実施中。自分は参加できませんが、こういうinter-disciplinaryでhands onの学びの機会があるということはとても素敵だなぁと思います。
